What are Pasta Chips?
Fried Pasta Chips are made with cooked pasta that is sun or air-dried. They are fried until golden and crispy, and then tossed in spices and seasonings for flavor. It is an enjoyable and fun snack or appetizer that everyone would surely love.
What You'll Need
- Pasta- Shaped and short pasta is best used for this recipe such as bowtie, ziti, or rigatoni.
- Garlic powder, ground black pepper, paprika, and parmesan cheese were used to flavor the pasta chips. But you may also use other herbs and spices like oregano, Italian seasoning, or even chili flakes for spicy pasta chips.
- Oil – Canola, sunflower, or vegetable oil are good for deep frying, as they have high smoke points and neutral taste.
- Tomato Paste – it is a concentrated and rich paste made from tomatoes. If tomato paste is unavailable, you can substitute it with ½ cup tomato sauce and omit the water.
- Olive Oil – Extra virgin olive oil is best used for dipping sauces.
- Dried oregano, basil, and garlic powder were used to flavor the marina sauce.
Tips to crispy Pasta Chips
- When deep-frying, the ideal temperature of the oil is around 176 to 190 °C (350-375°F). If you do not have a thermometer, the easiest way to know if the oil is hot enough is to dip a wooden spoon handle or chopstick into the oil. When small steady bubbles form around the wood and float up, your oil is ready. If the bubbles are vigorous and hard, the oil is too hot.
- You may skip the air-drying or sun-drying process if you like to enjoy your chips right away. Though the pasta chips are still crispy, note that the sun-dried pasta has a lighter and crunchier texture.
Alternative Cooking Methods
You can also cook your pasta chips using an air fryer or oven for a healthier, less-grease way:

- Follow the recipe steps until #3.
- Cook in a preheated Air Fryer for 10-12 minutes at 180°C/350°F, shaking halfway until they are golden brown.
- Continue with recipe step #5.
Pasta Chips Oven-bake
- Follow the recipe steps until #3.
- Place the baking sheet with the dried pasta in a preheated 200°C/400°F oven for 17-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Continue with recipe step #5.
How to Serve and Store
Like any fried food, these fried pasta chips are best eaten and served immediately as they may lose their crispiness over time.
Immediately store leftovers in an airtight container or Ziplock bags to retain crispiness, but make sure they are completely cool before storing them. Keep it at room temperature for up to 3 days.
