Benefits of Cucumber Juice

Cucumber juice being poured in a glass over ice.

Cucumbers are ideal for juicing, due to their high water content. Cucumbers are particularly valued for their ability to quench thirst and provide a cooling sensation in the country's warm weather. They thrive in the tropical climate, making them a readily available and affordable vegetable in the Philippines throughout the year. Easily accessible and budget-friendly, cucumbers are convenient for various uses, whether in salads, pickles, snacks, or refreshing beverages. Cucumber juice offers several health benefits, including:

  1. Hydration - Cucumbers are over 95% water, making cucumber juice an excellent hydrating beverage.
  2. Rich in Nutrients - Contains vitamins such as vitamin K and vitamin C and minerals like potassium and magnesium, which support overall health and well-being.
  3. Antioxidant Properties - Contain antioxidants such as beta-carotene and flavonoids, which help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.
  4. Promotes Skin Health - The silica in cucumber juice is beneficial for skin health, promoting hydration and elasticity.
  5. Aids Digestion - It actively soothes the digestive system, effectively alleviating bloating and indigestion
  6. Supports Weight Management - Low in calories and high in water content. Cucumber juice can help in weight loss or maintenance by keeping you full and hydrated.
  7. Detoxification - This juice is often included in detox diets due to its diuretic properties, which can help flush out toxins from the body.

Incorporating cucumber juice into your diet is a refreshing way to boost nutrient intake and support overall health. However, it's advisable to consult with your dietitian or doctor before making significant dietary changes.

Ingredients for Cucumber Juice

Ingredients needed to make cucumber juice.
  • Cucumbers - Use fresh cucumbers if possible. Choose firm cucumbers with a uniform dark green color. Lighter shades or yellow spots indicate that a cucumber is likely old.
  • Fuji/Gala Apple - This fruity addition elevates the flavor, serving as a sweetener to balance the mild flavor of the cucumber.
  • Fresh Mint Leaves -These give your beverage an energizing punch and fragrant scent, adding a cooling element.
  • Lemon or Lime Juice - The zesty tang of freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice adds a vibrant citrus twist to your juice.
  • Water - to achieve the perfect consistency for this refreshing drink.
  • Ice Cubes - for a more refreshing experience.
  • Sugar/Honey/Agave Syrup (if desired) - You can pick one of these sweeteners adjust the beverage's sweetness according to your preference.

Foxy Tips for You

Steps on how to make cucumber juic,e

Cut the cucumber and apple into small chunks to make them easier to blend or process.

Make sure to blend the ingredients for at least 2 to 3 minutes, especially if you do not have a high-powered blender.

Use a strainer or fine-mesh sieve to strain out the pulp or small chunks that remain after blending.

How to Serve and Store

For the best flavor and maximum health benefits, drink your cucumber juice immediately after making it. Serve it over ice for added enjoyment, especially in hot weather.

Store cucumber juice in an airtight container or jar. Refrigerate and consume it within 24 hours, as the flavors begin to dull after that.

To store for a longer period, pour the juice into ice trays and freeze. Pop out the cubes and store them in freezer bags or containers.

For a fun treat for the kids, pour the juice into popsicle molds and freeze them to create refreshing cucumber popsicles.
