Here is another easy and inexpensive way to put some life to an empty wall - by creating a collage of pictures of your choice. You can use pictures that you've taken yourself and make them into a wall collage or use favorite pictures from the internet (be sure though that you are allowed to use them) and add a little personal touch. My husband has taken some great pictures last time we went for a day trip to Insel Mainau one fine spring day and because I love flowers, this is the theme we…Read more→
One day when I was cleaning our kitchen cupboards, I realized that I have a bag of ground hazelnuts lying around. I do not remember why I bought it, probably because it was cheap and, of course, I do love hazelnuts. So I decided to make a hazelnut cake. There was a recipe for it from the packaging but I added a bit of this and that, so it was mostly experimental. But the end result was not bad, I only had to add more grounded hazelnut to the recipe because my personal…Read more→
I've learned to cook this since after I finished college and moved away from home to work in the big city (Manila). Living away from home for the first time (yes, we , in the Philippines, stay with our parents as long as we can :-P) taught me a lot of things and made me realize that I really like to cook. But I usually did not have the time or energy left after work to be able to do serious cooking, so I learned to do the quick and easy stuff. After…Read more→
This is a very simple Sponge cake recipe and you probably have all the ingredients already in your pantry. I usually use this for making other fruit cakes like the Mango Cake that I posted earlier. For a simple coffee or tea time cake, just slice it in the middle and spread jam in between the layers and if you like, add some whipped cream as they did in the early years like Queen Victoria liked them, hence, the name Victoria Sandwich or Victoria Sponge. There are lots of different ways to cook eggs, I know. But if you are tired of having them scrambled, sunny side up, pouched, fried , boiled or omelette, then here is another easy way to make them - Egg Roll. And they look much nicer too. I usually make them when we are having Asian-themed dinner, like Korean, Chinese or Japanese as they are so simple to make and add to the variety of the dishes. It is also good to have whenever my husband is having a diet. They do look appetizing…Read more→
A quick practical baking / cooking tip. Last Christmas, my Schwiegermutter (mother-in-law) and I made some bottles of Eierlikör, the german equivalent of eggnog, as giveaways. We had a lot of leftover egg whites and I, being practical, cannot find it in my heart to just throw them away. So what does one do with so many leftover egg whites? Actually there are a lot of ways to use them, like make some meringue or marshmallow or use it to make french macarons, coconut macaroons, egg white omelette or even angel food cake. But…Read more→
This recipe makes a thick, smooth and creamy pumpkin soup. It is one of my favorite soups, probably because of how easy it is to make yet it turns any meal into a fine dining experience. More popularly served during time of Thanksgiving, but why wait? To create the heart design: Using a teaspoon, drop some circles of cream on the surface then get a toothpick and run it through the middle of the circles. Now you have a perfect soup for Valentine's dinner. 5.0 from 1 reviews Print Easy Pumpkin Soup…Read more→
